WHAT WE'VE GOT GOING ON 
We are seeking a sharp Senior Security Monitoring Engineer to enhance our security capabilities, and design, develop and maintain our monitoring and incident response infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have technical skills to perform hands-on design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of of security monitoring infrastructure. The right person will have a strong knowledge of monitoring in a customer hosted AWS environment, and be familiar with various open source technologies and security best practices. In this role, you will get an opportunity to define the security vision, and build out the right infrastructure in a fast-growing and complex environment. You will have good opinions on what makes worthwhile log sources, reliability, performance optimization and what is needed to make a SOC successful. We will provide the freedom for you to implement that.

Monitoring is more than "just" logs. It's collecting the right information from many different sources, consistently, in an environment that is growing rapidly. In this case it also means getting the infrastructure in place to respond to incidents and ensuring the success of the response team. It's recognized that this is an important job with plenty of responsibility.

WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO 
Build and maintain the infrastructure necessary to monitor and respond to incidents in our corporate and production environments 
Develop a strategy for monitoring, including defining the roadmap 
Determine the right tools necessary to perform world-class security monitoring in AWS, and build it 
Develop policies, procedures, diagrams, and standard operating procedures 
Work with Operations to align and enhance key security processes including architecture reviews, configuration management, change control, security monitoring, vulnerability assessment, and incident identification and response 
Respond to customer or employee security requests 
Explore ways to get ahead of attackers using new approaches 

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE COMPANY
Proven working experience building and operating an effective security operations function 
Hands-on experience in security, and a willingness to continue being both an individual contributor and stepping beyond that function 
Ability to learn quickly 
Excellent communicator and a collaborative attitude 
A forward-thinking vision 
5+ years of security operations experience 
Ability to work out of the San Francisco or Santa Cruz office 5 days a week (but you get to pick your work from home day) 
Knowing a programming language and/or the world of Ops is a plus
